For your Friday viewing pleasure, some beautiful typographic illustrations by artist and illustrator Cody Hoyt. He majored in printmaking at Massachusetts College of Art, and incorporates a lot of traditional print media like intaglio, lithography and silkscreen in his work. The end result is just beautiful. I currently have this one as my desktop wallpaper at home:

I love love love Toronto-based illustrator Darren Booth's hand-drawn type. This is just the tip of the iceberg. His site is full of beautiful things.

not so deadly

I just saw these candles inspired by the seven deadly sins on Death by Kerning. They're made by Cannes-based company Demèche. I'm not sure how I feel about the labels (they look a little slapped on to me), but I'm loving the type treatment. It has a real vintage calligraphy feel, updated with open spaces and elegant flourishes that do really remind me of flickering candle flames.

when type goes bad

Anna Friel's dress has NO written all over it. No, really it does. In theory, I like the idea of mixing typography with high fashion, but this just isn't working...

letter monsters

I saw these cute letter monster illustrations on Boing Boing the other day. North Carolina based designer and illustrator Joey Ellis created them to help his son learn the alphabet. They remind me a little of something Reis would do. You can see the whole alphabet on his flickr page.
